Arctic Cruises

Aurora yacht is a 60 foot sloop built by Colvic Craft in the UK in 1996. She was designed for the Clipper Round the World race and has been raced around the world 4 times and has since been to Greenland a good number of times. The previous owner was Clipper Ventures plc founded by the legendary sailor Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, who was the first person to sail around the world non-stop and single-handed in 1969.

Today, Isafjordur in northwest Iceland is the home base for the yacht and it operates as live aboard accommodation for those who want to explore the remote Hornstrandir region for wildlife and walking. Each summer it also crosses the Denmark Strait to eastern Greenland to explore the quiet waters of the fjords here where isolated Inuit communities live among some of the world's most spectacular wilderness scenery.

The vessel is very sturdy and spacious. Accommodation is simple and utilitarian, but seamanlike. There are bunks/berths, a good galley and spacious communal spaces, two heads (toilets) and one shower. The vessel was initially fitted out for 15 crew, but now accommodates 12 persons including 2 crew and 10 guests making the perfect size for real exploration of a practically untouched area of Greenland.

In terms of safety equipment Aurora is equipped according to strict Icelandic regulations. Furthermore, there is a satellite phone is onboard that can be used by guests for a reasonable price should they need to contact the outside world.
