Breckenridge Lodge

Hawkes Bay is famed for its Mediterranean-like climate, beautiful coastline, rolling hills and sensational food and wine and Breckenridge Lodge was designed and built by owner Malcom Redmond to take full advantage of this. From early on the idea was to create a place that encompasses environmentally sustainable practices. Hundreds of native trees have been planted which attract a large number of native birdlife, the lavender grown provides the oil for the locally made soaps and shampoos used in the guest rooms, while from the orchards a bounty of oranges, peaches and persimmons are transformed by Malcom into chutneys and preserves for the lodge. An organic vegetable garden provides a wealth of herbs, salads and vegetables for the kitchen, there really are no food miles here. Alongside his wife Ellie, Malcom Redmond is your host and chef and his love of food goes back to his childhood, after honing his skills at prestigious Huka Lodge, The George in Christchurch and Church Road Winery in Hawkes Bay, he now shares his passion for food with the guests of Breckenridge.

Five guest rooms are beautifully appointed with views out over the vineyards and a rural landscape. There is a private guest lounge where you can enjoy a pre-dinner drink with fellow guests and an outside terrace. During your stay, you may choose to dine in-house and indulge in the 5-course degustation evening meal, paired with wines from the cellar, or you may prefer to stay on a bed and breakfast basis.

Breckenridge is just a short drive from Napier and 20 minutes from the coast. The Hawkes Bay region has over 70 wineries and most have cellar doors enabling you to sample and purchase their wares. Cultural experiences with the local Maori people are a great way to get a unique and spiritual insight into the region.
