Lapland Winter Adventure

Enjoy the exhilaration of being out in the Arctic wilderness each day trying something new before returning to good food and the comfortable surroundings of your chosen accommodation, Harriniva Adventure Resort or Jeris Lakeside Resort.  The highlight of the trip is when you drive your own team of huskies on an overnight dog sled safari and stay in a wilderness cabin.

This winter adventure week is the perfect choice whether you are travelling as a couple, with friends or going solo. With small group activities you are sure to meet many likeminded people and leave not only with lasting memories but new found friends. 

Day 1 Arrive Kittilä
Depart from either London or Manchester to Lapland. Meeting and transfer by road to your chosen accommodation. There will be an evening get together with the group and information about the programme for the week ahead. Dinner and overnight.

Day 2 Reindeers
Today you will visit an ancient reindeer farm where the herders will tell you about their life on the farm, about reindeer and reindeer husbandry. After you have helped the herders harness the reindeer you will venture out on a 2 hour safari in a traditional sleigh through the forests with lunch served around a campfire. Back at your hotel treat yourself to a warming sauna followed by dinner.

Day 3 Snowmobiles
Take a snowmobile safari through the mountain scenery covering a total distance of up to 80km. Driving a snowmobile is surprisingly easy, even for beginners, and soon you will enjoy speeding through the snowy forests and across frozen lakes. Again, and as is tradition, take lunch by an open fire in the wilderness. Return to the centre to overnight.

Day 4 Overnight Husky Safari
With equipment packed you will get to know your husky dogs, each eager to run. You will be taught how to handle the dogs and sled and then you depart on a 2 day safari into the great northern wilderness driving your own team of 4-5 dogs. Lunch is by an open fire en route. The distance covered today is around 25km before arriving at a wilderness hut where you will have your evening meal, recounting tales of the day before a relaxing sauna.

Day 5 Husky Safari back to base
Wake up in the magic of the north before packing up camp and heading off again with your team of dogs for a further 30km or so, eventually returning to the centre. A warming sauna will be a welcomed treat to ease any aching muscles before heading to the dining room for a well deserved dinner this evening.

Day 6 Free day for optional activities
Today is free for your own activities. You can go cross-country skiing or snowshoeing; downhill skiing is also possible on the nearby Olos-Fell. You could just relax with a good book or indulge in a spa treatment.

Day 7 Free day and farewell dinner
A final day at leisure in Lapland. Maybe re-visit one of your favourite activities or simply relax. This evening your safari group will meet for a farewell dinner with Lapp specialties.

Day 8 Depart Finland
After breakfast, the morning is at leisure until your transfer to Kittilä airport for your return flights to the UK.

Final Night Upgrade Option
Enhance your winter adventure by swapping your traditional accommodation for an Aurora Hut glamping experience and spend your final night in Lapland under the Arctic night skies.
