Probably the best wildlife lodge in the northern Pantanal set in a private wildlife reserve

Introduction

Aymara is located a short distance down the Transpantaniera Highway, the unpaved road that passes through the wetlands of the northern Pantanal for 150km to ultimately reach Porto Jofre. The lodge is set in a private wildlife reserve of almost 250 hectares, a mix of grasslands, forest and riverine waterways, perfect for wildlife.

Wildlife and bird life is the focus of this lodge and with just 18 rooms in the reserve it feels like a private nature experience with the different nature activities on offer each day. In fact you can rest on your porch and listen to and enjoy seeing the birds and mammals that pass through the lodge daily as the lodge is surrounded by forest.

All rooms are en suite and air conditioned. Each is fairly rustic with an emphasis on wood, which is typical of the area; and with double or single beds. Gardens surround the pool and the main area houses a restaurant and bar.

Cuisine here is local, varied and tasty with menus designed daily based on availability of fresh ingredients. Sustainability and conservation matter and research projects on the birds and other animals have been carried out.

There are a number of camera traps out on the trails and everything from jaguar, ocelot and tapir to deer and giant armadillo have been recorded. So too have over 300 bird species.

This is perhaps the best lodge in the northern Pantanal for an immersive wildlife experience.
