First Nations culture seamlessly woven with outstanding wildlife and natural wonders

Introduction

Perched on the calm waters of Desolation Sound and backed by the temperate rain forest that cloaks the coastal mountains, sits a very special place called Klahoose Wilderness Resort.

Owned by the Klahoose First Nation, the location of this unique indigenous eco-resort, in the heart of Klahoose Nation traditional territory, boasts one of the richest ecosystems on the planet.  Only accessible by boat or seaplane, the resort operates with an emphasis on clean energy and the environment and supports the local and Indigenous economy.

Whether you choose to stay for 3 or 4 nights, every detail will be taken care of, allowing you to slow down, listen to the ocean and be inspired by the natural beauty of the land, nature and Indigenous culture. With just a handful of cosy lodge rooms and a few more spacious cedar cabins you are assured an intimate stay.  With hardwood floors and wood panelled walls, each is adorned with indigenous art and private facilities and affords outstanding views to the ocean, mountains, and surrounding rainforest.

This is not only a place to relax, but also explore, and during your all-inclusive stay, Indigenous guides will lead you on a personal journey through activities such as storytelling, songs, cedar weaving, and excursions.  There is a focus on eco-adventure tours, with whale watching and wildlife tours available throughout the season.  The earlier months of May and June bring the best opportunities for spring bear viewing by boat and by late late-August until October the mighty grizzly takes precedent.

Throughout your stay, enjoy complimentary sea kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding and ocean swimming in the warm waters of the sound (some of the warmest north of Mexico!).  Guided and self-guided rainforest nature walks are right on the doorstep and back at Klahoose the woodfired cedar sauna on the dock is sure to warm up any evening.

On your return from each refreshing day of adventure, you are welcome to relax in the Great Room, with its imposing cedar beams and wood burning fireplace and, each evening, you’ll sit down with fellow guests to a menu carefully created from the freshest local produce harvested from this bountiful coast.  Savour delicacies from the Salish Sea, outstanding flavours from local farms, and seasonal foraged fare, all accompanied by complimentary house wine and beer.
