One of the best reserves in southern India

Nagarhole National Park

Nagarhole National Park is considered one of the best places in India to observe elephants in the wild. About a thousand elephants are thought to populate the park and in the hot summer months they congregate in large herds along the banks of the River Kabini. Over 200 species of birds have been recorded. As well as large numbers of game and water birds the park is noted for its ospreys.

Nagarhole and Bandipur National Parks are effectively linked to each other in the Karapur Forest region at Kabini. This land abounds with nature and is perhaps southern India’s most pristine area. Consequently, there is an abundance of wildlife including tiger, leopard, wild elephant, dhole (Indian wild dog), and gaur (Indian bison). Other species present are chital (spotted deer), muntjac (barking deer), mouse deer, chinkara (four-horned an
telope), wild boar, sloth bear, hyena, mongoose, civet and otter.

The landscape is one of gentle and the terrain throughout the parks constantly changes and the combination of habitats provides excellent nature viewing opportunities.
