Aurora Safari Camp
Inspired by African bush camps this Swedish safari camp continues to impress
Nestled in a secluded spot on the banks of the Räne River in Swedish Lapland, Aurora Safari Camp was inspired by the African Bush camps, where its founders spent many years working in hospitality. Now settled in the Arctic landscape they call home, Jonas and his partner Naila have combined their extensive hosting and safari experience to create an authentic Swedish retreat that attracts guests from around the world.
At the heart of the camp lies a warm and welcoming dining cabin and lounge. Here, you can share good company with plentiful food and drink as all meals, drinks, and snacks are included during your stay. Breakfast and lunch are tailored around your daily activities, while each evening brings hearty, home-style dinners inspired by traditional Northern Swedish cuisine. Meals are paired with house red, white, or sparkling wines, and a selection of local beers and spirits are also offered. Relax indoors by the warmth of the fire or gather for nightcap on the veranda around the outdoor firepit and soak up the stunning views across the lake to the Arctic night skies. As night falls, you are perfectly placed, far from any light pollution to witness some fantastic displays of Northern Lights whether on a guided excursion or from the tranquillity of camp.
This unique off-grid glamping hideaway makes no compromise on comfort. Accommodation comprises five fully furnished woodland cabins, each thoughtfully designed to offer both privacy and with a connection to nature and kept cosy with a hybrid pellet burner.
Tipi Cabins
The 3 Tipi Cabins offer a memorable stay and stunning views from their north facing glass covered veranda. These traditional Sami inspired canvas tents are fully insulated with wooden floors and wood panelled internal walls, with each benefiting from an ensuite toilet and washbasin.
Lapland Cones
The 2 heated Lapland Cone rooms, also with ensuite toilet and washbasin, boast the most comfortable twin or double bed. Shed your winter attire in the separate entrance hallway and step into the cosy bedroom with its conical glass roof and panoramic north facing windows, the perfect spot to cosy up for aurora viewing.
The Sauna's
Guests can indulge in traditional wood-fired sauna sessions in the Forest Sauna, just a short stroll from the cabins or, in winter venture onto the frozen lake for a rejuvenating dip in the ice pool followed by the enveloping warmth of the Sauna in the Ice. Private time slots and shower facilities at both saunas ensure a peaceful and personal experience.
Floating Safari Camp (Summer only)
Built for the Swedish summer, the Floating Safari Camp is available for exclusive use from June to September making it the perfect summer retreat for families or small groups of friends. Floating off the shores of Aurora Safari Camp, it offers complete seclusion, where you can swim, paddle, and enjoy relaxed barbecues on the deck before drifting into restful nights on the water. Accommodation includes two high-quality safari-style tents and a comfortable double cabin room. A traditional wood-fired sauna, with an adjoining changing and shower room, sits alongside an outdoor hot tub on the deck. The sauna features a 12V shower, and the floating platform is also equipped with a private dry toilet and a foot-pump wash basin. A well-appointed outdoor kitchen is at your disposal, complete with a gas barbecue, 12-volt cool box, and a firepit, perfect for quiet evenings beneath the stars. Guests can choose between self-catering or fully hosted stays and with full access to canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards, you are free to explore the surrounding waterways and forest trails at your own pace, while fully guided excursions are also available.
Activities
Days at camp can be as peaceful or as active as you wish. In winter explore the surrounding wilderness on snowshoes, Nordic skis, or winter bikes - all available for your use. Follow the tracks of moose, reindeer, red fox, and roe deer through the forest, or simply sit back and soak in the quiet beauty of nature. Guided adventures can also be arranged, from adrenaline-fueled snowmobile and husky safaris to immersive cultural experiences with local families, regional foods, and native wildlife.
In summer, guests are invited to enjoy the lake with paddle boards, canoes, kayaks, and maybe a spot of fishing, or fill the long summer days with hiking, biking and forest foraging. You can also meet the huskies, hand feed reindeer and experience the midnight sun.
