From Lima you cross the high Andes on a spectacular flight to Puerto Maldonado in the Amazon basin. Your journey now proceeds by boat up the Tambopata River to a jungle lodge. From this environmentally friendly lodge you can explore the surrounding rainforest. The guides here are excellent and you will learn a great deal about the abundant flora and fauna. There is a nearby clay lick and also a tower built to give you views over the canopy.

This classic tour continues to Cusco, a city that seems to delight every visitor with its grand plazas and architecture. You can visit the Sacred Valley of the Incas and then on to the world famous Inca remains at Machu Picchu. We give you a further morning to explore the fabulous setting of the ruins high above precipitous mountain slopes, before returning to Cusco and travelling through one of the most beautiful areas of the Andes to Lake Titicaca. An excursion by boat on the lake allows you to visit the Uros Indians on their floating tortora reed islands and the island of Taquile known for its precise weaving.

Arequipa and the quiet convent of Santa Catalina stand below the nearby volcano of El Misti. You leave the 'white city' and travel to the deep Colca Canyon. Here, high above the terraced fields condors soar, intimating the great freedom and space to be found throughout Peru. In typical Wildlife & Wilderness style this itinerary is truly diverse and overflowing with experiences.

These are some of the optional extensions:
3 night extension to Tambopata Research Center for its wonderful macaw clay licks with hundreds of parrots.
1 night extension to do a day walk to explore the villages and farms in a quiet side valley off the Sacred Valley.
1 night extension to stay at a small community lodge on the Llachon peninsula of Lake Titicaca for walks and for a gentle kayak to Taquile Island.
2 night extension to the Ballestas Islands and Paracas National Park on the coast south of Lima for bird life including penguins plus sea lions.
