On arrival in Canada, adjust to your new time zone with a few days exploring the dynamic city of Calgary, Alberta. Home to the famous ‘Calgary Stampede’, it is also a centre for country music in Canada and offers a rich cultural heritage alongside endless outdoor activities.
Swapping the city for the alpine resort of Banff, you will be transported to the most unspoilt natural surroundings. Banff brings you face to face with nature and majestic wildlife and with so much to explore, let us suggest where to begin. A trip to the summit of Sulphur Mountain on the Banff Gondola affords spectacular views of the township and Bow Valley while a dip in the soothing waters of Upper Banff Hot Springs is a favourite for both locals and visitors alike. Join a wildlife tour or take to the waters with a cruise on Lake Minnewanka.
You will spend a full day exploring Canada’s most scenic mountain roadway, The Icefields Parkway, with over one hundred visible glaciers, turquoise lakes, and cascading waterfalls. Visit Lake Louise, Bow Lake and Peyto Lake and take a spectacular journey onto the surface of the Athabasca Glacier onboard the Ice Explorer. Gaze out to mesmerising views of Sun-wapta Valley from the glass-floored observation platform at the Columbia Icefield Skywalk.
In Banff you will board the legendary Rocky Mountaineer for one of the worlds most spectacular rail journeys. Travel past the snow-capped peaks of the Canadian Rockies, over mountain passes and through remarkable tunnels into the heart of the British Columbia interior. Your journey continues west after an overnight stop in Kamloops, through winding river canyons, pristine forests, and the lush Fraser Valley, to the Pacific Ocean and the coastal city of Vancouver.
After a few days of exploration in vibrant Vancouver, you may choose to end your Canadian travels but, if you not ready to bid farewell just yet, we have the perfect place to continue your adventure.
KLAHOOSE WILDERNESS RESORT
Perched on the calm waters of Desolation Sound, Klahoose Wilderness Resort is owned by the Klahoose First Nation and is only accessible by boat or seaplane. During a 3 or 4-night stay, your every need will be catered for, allowing you to relax, unwind and be inspired by the tranquil surroundings.
But this is by no means just a place to relax, you can also explore and, when you are not out paddle boarding, sea kayaking, swimming in the sound, or meandering the rainforest trails, Indigenous guides will lead you on a personal journey through engaging activities such as storytelling, songs, and cedar weaving.
Eco-marine adventures are included, with opportunities throughout the season to view orca and humpback whales, dolphins, porpoises, sea lions, seals and eagles, however, many come here for the bears. The earlier months of May and June offer the best spring bear viewing by boat but, by late late-August until October, the mighty grizzly bear takes precedent.
At Klahoose Wilderness Resort you can escape into nature and experience First Nations culture seamlessly woven with outstanding wildlife and natural wonders.
