Deep in the heart of the Amazon rainforest some 500km west of Manaus, there is a special reserve, Mamirauá that protects11,000kmof Varzea or flooded forest and wetlands. This Ramsar site is a huge conservation area linked to other pristine forest and has a huge number of mammals, birds and other orders of animals. There are two monkey species, white uakari and black squirrel monkey that are endemic occurring only within the reserve's boundaries. It is the perfect destination for wildlife lovers and nature enthusiasts and you will stay at Uakari Lodge, a floating oasis in the heart of the forest. This is no luxury lodge but will provide those who really want to experience the wilds of the Amazon from a community run lodge a great experience.

From Uakari Lodge, the second part of this trip is by boat closer to Manaus and the Meeting of the Waters, the Rio Negro and the Solimões that form the Amazon. You will stay on board a small vessel with your guide and seek out pink river dolphins and explore the backwaters of the Anavilhanas Archipelago. Time will be spent walking on trails and enjoying the wildlife from on deck as you cruise the labyrinth of backwater channels as well as seeking out nocturnal wildlife including night monkeys. There is also the chance to visit an indigenous community before returning to Manaus to depart.
