Kaingo Camp is reached through a thick grove of black-barked ebony trees and the safari camp itself seems a magical place to arrive at, cool in the shade of its own tree canopy above the Luangwa River. In this idyllic setting you will find a small luxury camp of 5 solid thatched chalets and one extended suite; an open plan dining lounge bar and delightful deck close to the river.

Kaingo Camp
A well-established, owner run boutique lodge with additional wildlife hides
Shenton Safaris chose a wonderful location for their main camp in an area incredibly rich in wildlife.
Kaingo Camp exudes style, cleverly crafted, there is a permanence to this camp and privacy to each chalet. The little touches provide something special for the discerning safari enthusiast. There are no background noise from generators, the camp is run on solar power. Stunning courtyards with outdoor tubs look out over the river and you can pass hours on your own deck observing birds, hippos and elephant crossings. Large sliding doors bring Africa to your bedroom. It feels at once homely yet very special.
Activities of course include game drives and bush walks, the morning activities often ending with a delicious bush brunch. One of the key features of Kaingo Camp are the photographic hides that have been built for keen wildlife photographers. In season there is a carmine bee-eater hide but more permanently there is a hide for hippos down at the water's edge, an elephant hide with its own star bed and then hides at the waterhole near Mwamba for whatever may come by, from puku to buffalo to lions.
Wild Dog Lagoon hide is another hide where birds and a wide array of other animals provide excellent wildlife photography. For those looking for a tailor made wildlife photography safari or indeed just a luxury safari in Zambia, we would highly recommend Kaingo Camp.
Shenton Safaris are owner run and managed and also operate Mwamba, a simple bush camp further into the bush in the northern sector of South Luangwa National Park where there are more hides for wildlife photography.
