Family run safari camp in the far north of South Luangwa

Introduction

Tafika Camp is the main camp of Remote Africa Safaris, an owner run safari operation founded by John & Carol Coppinger. It is a great example of a hands-on and personal safari company.

Tafika consists of 6 well-spaced out reed chalets located on the banks of the Luangwa River in the far north of the Nsefu Sector of South Luangwa National Park, where the river makes a great sweeping bend. There is plentiful game here and wildlife, in particular elephants, do wander through camp but can also be enjoyed from the camp's reed hide. The main area is an open plan lounge bar and early morning coffee is usually taken beside the campfire overlooking the river.

Each reed chalet is simply but comfortably furnished and has an en suite bathroom with shower and separate, attached toilet hut. Roll down blinds bring a feeling of security at night. One of the chalets has two bedrooms and is ideal for families or friends travelling together. Emphasis is most certainly on getting out and exploring this abundant area, whether on foot, by mountain bike or in a safari vehicle.

Tafika is an excellent starting point for those looking to do their walking safari and to visit the even more remote Chikoko Tree Camp, a simple reed camps that can only be reached on foot.
