Built in the spirit of their First Nations heritage, Spirit Bear Lodge pays homage to the traditional long houses built for thousands of years by West Coast First Nations people. With a waterfront setting in the heart of nature, Spirit Bear Lodge provides a restful retreat after each full day of adventure and exploration in the Great Bear Rainforest. Share stories with fellow guests in 'The Great Room' and gaze out to the Pacific Ocean where orcas, dolphins and sea lions frolic. The 11 guest rooms boast ocean and rainforest views and offer comfortable king sized beds and private bathrooms.
During your stay your days will be spent in small groups with qualified guides discovering the delights of the Great Bear Rainforest, the largest piece of intact temperate rainforest left on the planet, home to grizzly bears, black bears and the elusive spirit bear. Travelling by boat, you will visit pristine river valleys and estuaries before disembarking to explore these lush areas on foot.
Your guides have an intimate knowledge of the behaviour and movement patterns of the bears, and other wildlife, maximising your chances to witness the magnificent grizzly and black bear as they feast on salmon during the spawning season. You will also visit Princess Royal Island and Spirit Bear Conservancy areas to view the elusive spirit bear from hidden observation points, allowing you the unique opportunity to witness these magnificent creatures eating and socialising in their natural environment.
In addition to dedicated wildlife tours you will also be able to enjoy an interpretive tour of a salmon hatchery, discover an extinct volcano in Millbanke Sound, visit cultural and natural history sites and search for humpback whales on a marine adventure. Close to the lodge is one of the largest wolf populations in the area and guests often hear the wolves and see hundreds of tracks. If you wish to embark on a special wolf tour in order to increase your chances of actually seeing these beautiful creatures we can arrange this for you.
As evening sets in you will have chance to recount your daily adventures with fellow guests as you sip on a cocktail before settling down to dinner. Evening interpretive programmes and slideshows are also available.
