Tucked away in a quiet cove on the Osa Peninsula, Punta Islita sits on the hillside overlooking the Pacific Ocean and small beach. Scarlet macaws noisily wheel past at around eye-level. This is one of the more sophisticated properties in Costa Rica.
From the pool and open air dining area there is a relaxed feel, eased by attentive staff. A number of rooms in a Spanish colonial style contour down the hillside. Separate to the main area there are some wondeful large family villas with private pools.
The infinity pool has terrific views plus a swim-up bar and the spa is one of the nicest we have seen on our travels. The hotel also runs a beachside bar and restaurant serving fish specialties for residents and there is a family-friendly pool set out on the lawns here too. A shuttle transfer up and down to the beach is available from the main hotel. It should be noted that the beach is stony, rather than sand.
There are a number of guided activities possible from the hotel and it runs a nearby conservation project to protect scarlet macaws. Punta Islita is an informal, exquisite property and an ideal location in which to end holidays in Costa Rica with some relaxation.
