Jamtara Wilderness Camp

Jamtara Wilderness Camp is a stunning 10 luxury tented camp tucked away in the rural India close to the north edge of Pench National Park. It enjoys exclusive access to the north of this small but varied reserve where the main predator is of course tiger. The white tents are spacious, classically furnished in a colonial style but with a bright, refreshing feel. They look out over their woodland setting whilst the main building feels compact with its comfy lounge and dining beside a small pool; whilst just below, drinks can be enjoyed around the fire below the great banyan tree.

A feature of the camp are the star beds, these machans, or look out points that the locals use to guard their crops, are converted to take four-poster beds and offer the chance to sleep under the stars should you feel the desire to spend a night away from the comfort of your tent.

Jamtara has close ties to the nearby village of the same name and has a friendly family feel and we were made very welcome on our visit, the food was delicious too. As might be expected excellent guiding compliments the standard of this luxury camp that really should be considered when visiting Pench by those who, like us, prefer watching wildlife away from the crowds. Indeed on departing camp we saw Indian wolf crossing the road in the neighbouring woodland.
