Arctic Bath

Create memories in the heart of Swedish Lapland at the unique Arctic Bath. Floating on the Lule River, this natural spa retreat offers an oasis of calm and wellbeing that transforms from floating to frozen with the changing seasons.

The architecture for the main circular building was inspired by the log jams formed during the golden age of timber transportation along this river route. Perfectly centred in this nest like structure is the open-air cold bath, surrounding which are three saunas, a spa treatment room and hot baths, allowing guests a seamless transition from hot to cold.

With the use of sustainable materials, elements of nature were also incorporated into the thoughtful design of the 12 stunning Land and Water Cabins, resulting in a harmonious Scandinavian vibe where high levels of comfort and luxury have most certainly not been overlooked.

Water
Free-floating in summer and fixed frozen in the ice come winter, the water cabins are connected to the shore by a floating walkway. Fully equipped and with underfloor heating, the water cabins boast a double bed and ensuite bathroom plus a small seating area where you may relax by the pellet-wood stove. The private outdoor wooden deck offers the perfect spot for a midnight swim during the summer months or wrap up in winter and gaze up to the northern lights.

Land
Elevated on poles and nestled on the shoreline, the stunning land cabins provide a haven for up to 5 people. A king-sized bed adorns the main living space alongside additional seating beside the pellet stove and a cavernous bathroom complete with bathtub and shower. A spiral staircase ascends to 3 further single beds in the loft. Beyond the floor to ceiling glass façade, the expansive deck provides an ideal space to unwind or simply relax, sipping your morning coffee.

Suite
Echoing the same design and location as the land cabins, the suites offer pure indulgence for just 2 people. Enjoy the views from the lounge through the floor to ceiling glass frontage and retreat to the mezzanine loft bedroom via the spiral staircase, where views to the northern skies can still be observed.

Restaurant
Local produce and sustainability are the ethos of the Arctic Bath kitchen. Begin your day with a healthy a la carte breakfast of homemade breads accompanied by charcuterie and cheese from nearby Jokkmokk and Vuollerim. Enjoy a light lunch of northern classics, sample the best local craft beers and sip on a selection of deliciously fresh smoothies. With an ever changing five-course set menu prepared each evening, the Culinary Arctic Dinner Experience provides a gastronomic feast for both the eyes and palate.

The Spa
A menu of equally delightful spa therapies and treatments are available at the spa. but this is no ordinary spa. With a holistic approach to wellness and a focus on health and well-being the spa provides a sanctuary from the pressures of daily life to rebalance both body and soul.  All guests are provided with an Arctic Spa Kit to experience Arctic Bath’s signature ‘Spa Ritual’ at their own pace. With luxurious Kerstin Florian skin products for the body and face this traditional Swedish experience allows you to sample three different saunas, relax in a hot tub and plunge into the cold arctic bath positioned under the northern sky. A wellness experience like no other.

Activities
You may find you don’t want to leave the luxury of Arctic Bath but with so much nature to discover on your doorstep, it would be a shame to pass on the opportunity. Summer provides the longest of days to kayak the Lule River, dive into wild swimming or hike the Storforsen Nature Reserve. No matter the season you can embrace Sapmi culture, meet the reindeer or taste the ‘Essence of Lapland’. And when the snows finally arrive there is ample opportunity to journey by snowmobile or husky drawn sled through the frozen landscapes before seeking the northern lights.  Take a look at our Architectural Wonders itinerary for some holiday inspiration.
