A classic combination of city, reef plus a little wildlife and wilderness. As an outline, this trip in its simplest form can be left to you to relax and explore. However, there are some tremendous excursions that should not be missed if the budget allows. This holiday is very much suitable for families as well as couples travelling together and perhaps looking to explore Australia for the first time.
The iconic Opera House dominates Sydney and is a must see, but there is so much else to discover, the Harbour Bridge, do you fancy a bridge climb? Learn to surf on Bondi Beach, enjoy a scenic sail with lunch on a yacht in the harbour itself or perhaps take to the skies in a float plane. Discover Aboriginal history in Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park just to the north and then venture out to the Blue Mountains. There are a number of different ways to see the Blue Mountains from a self-drive out to the famous sandstone landmark of The Three Sisters, to small group tours focusing on the mountains or wildlife. You can even spend a night out in a luxury swag under the stars and enjoy some walking, fly-fishing and kayaking.
A flight to Cairns lands you in the tropics and you will make your way up the winding coast road to Daintree Rainforest. Overnight at a rainforest lodge for a couple of nights to give you time to experience this special environment. During the day you can discover ancient trees, some of Australia's small marsupials and perhaps one of its large birds, the cassowary. A Daintree River excursion is also good for birds and nature.
Only a short distance away you reach the coast again at Port Douglas, a small resort town with a laid-back atmosphere. There is a wide choice of accommodation here from which to relax or explore further. Alternatively we would recommend some nights offshore out at an island resort on the Great Barrier Reef, there is a wide choice to choose from.
