Relax on the long sandy beaches of the Caribbean coast for a couple of days or explore Cahuita National Park before heading off to explore the nature on the backwaters at Tortuguero. Monkeys, toucans, parrots, caiman, and in season, turtles can all be seen here with expert naturalist guides exploring with you by boat in one of Costa Rica's hotspots for wildlife.
Leaving the backwaters you head to Sarapiqui and the lowland rainforests of La Selva which are full of the full range of wildlife, from beautiful butterflies to green basilisks, a myriad of birds including many rare species. On our last trip there we saw otter and tamandua or northern anteater.
Next it is up to Arenal volcano and relax in the hot springs this evening. The following morning you can take to the exhilarating zip wires, one of which is 700m long above the forest canopy or enjoy the more gentle Hanging Bridges in the forest canopy. This is a great opportunity for those interested in birds and life in the tree tops! During the afternoon you will take a boat across Lake Arenal and climb up to the famous cloudforest of Monteverde where you can discover nocturnal wildlife on a guided night walk.
Another private guided walk the next morning will show you the great diversity of flora and fauna in this montane cloudforest; whilst in the afternoon we give you a different perspective of Costa Rica with a guided tour of a coffee plantation. Coffee is an important export for the country and this tour will give you a fascinating insight from the plant to the finished product.
Your final destination is the arid warm coast of Guanacaste Province and the small settlement of Nosara. You can spend the rest of your holiday at leisure enjoying the beaches, surfing, enjoying a yoga session or photographing the distinctive orange and purple land crabs. Of course there are many other excursions for the more adventurous on offer here too.
This suggested itinerary is an example of what is possible when combining popular destinations with some beach time. Price is dependant on season, standard of accommodation and length of stay.
