Description

The classic trip taking in the highlights of Old and New Delhi and combining these with the wildlife of Ranthambore in the arid hills of Rajasthan. Your journey of discovery also will see India from a train, allow you to explore the pink city of Jaipur, the world famous Taj Mahal at Agra and still spend time searching for tigers before returning home.

Delhi and in particular Old Delhi will certainly introduce you to the vibrant character of India: the Red Fort may be your first taste of Mughal architecture whilst the Jama Masjid is India's largest mosque. Chandni Chowk, the main street in Old Delhi, is a fascinating bazaar. New Delhi also has some fine sites including Humayun's Tomb and the Raj Path leading to India Gate.

Perhaps one of the highlights of this itinerary is the visit to Agra where the Taj Mahal is truly magnificent and your first sight of it will be forever etched in you mind.

Away from frenetic pace of the Golden Triangle cities this holiday gives you time to slow down and enjoy the regions' natural highlights, including the bird life of the lovely Ghana Keoladeo Bird Sanctuary at Bharatpur. Here many migratory birds over-winter with numerous resident species.

Then there is the excitement of searching and then quietly watching tigers in Ranthambore National Park, an intense experience and these denizens of the forests are sure to impress. Other big cats including caracal and leopard are present as well as sloth bear and a wide variety of prey species including chital or spotted deer, sambar and nilgai. Bird life too is abundant in the reserve.

You last destination on this classic Indian tour is the pink city of Jaipur which was first decorated in the nineteenth century. The tradition remains to enhance the character of this popular city, home to the famous façade of the Hawa Mahal. Just outside the city is the famous fort-palace of Amber Fort, an outstanding example of Hindu and Rajput style and an UNESCO World Heritage Site. A final morning will surely see you enjoying bartering in the bustling markets with every kind of product before heading back to Delhi for a final night's dinner.
