Farewell Spit is the most northerly point on the South Island, the site of many interesting fossils and home to New Zealand fur seals. During the summer months up to 20,000 godwit and 30,000 knot as well as many other migratory birds spend there time here.

At the beginning of the Spit your first visit is to Fossil Point, a very popular hauling out spot for the NZ fur seals. Old fossils can be seen in abundance and there is plenty of sea life to explore in the many rock pools nearby. Further along the ocean beach brings you to the Lighthouse Reserve, here there is opportunity to climb the lighthouse and hear some of the Maori myths and legends of the Spit.

This tour is operated by hugely knowledge and passionate guides and they are committed to ensuring you get the very best experience from your trip. This tour is a must for bird and nature lovers and gives an opportunity to explore an otherwise inaccessible part of New Zealand.
