The seasons vary in Sri Lanka and the best place to be enjoying Sri Lanka's wildlife during the summer months is in Wilpattu. This is Sri Lanka's largest national park and is a mix of dense woodland and villu's or natural lakes that dot the landscape. Full day safaris here are the norm and picnic lunches can be enjoyed in rest spots throughout the park. A professional naturalist guide will accompany you on this part of your trip to help you get the most from the park. Wildlife is abundant and this is a great place to find sloth bears as well as leopards, two of the islands great mammals. Elephants are often seen too. Birdlife is prolific here.
Moving away from the jungle you head to the east coast and Trincomalee. Here you can unwind and enjoy the extensive beaches and facilities of your preferred hotel. We suggest either Jungle Beach by Uga as an upmarket option or Trinco Blue by Cinnamon Lodges. Either will ensure you have plenty of time to unwind. Furthermore, whale watching at this time of the year can be good from Trincomalee and you may want to add a boat excursion in search of leviathans.
This safari holiday and beach combo is best chosen from May to October. During the winter season from November to April we recommend our Bush & Beach Boutique Luxury Safari or downgrade to a classic safari to Yala National Park and the beaches of Bentota.
