Description
With so much to discover and explore, this comprehensive small group escorted tour highlights the natural wonders, majestic landscapes and the unique character of this incredible Arctic Island. Blending the perfect mix of culture and nature, this is a great introduction to a truly beautiful country.
Day 1. Arrive Reykjavik
Arrive in Iceland and transfer to Reykjavik. You may wish to visit the famous Blue Lagoon on the way and relax in the thermal waters.
Day 2. Geysir - Waterfalls - Dyrholaey - Black Sand Beaches
Meet with your guide and the rest of your group this morning. Leaving the city behind, discover the delights of Geysir and Gullfoss before heading to the South Shore with stops at the majestic Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls. Continue to Dyrhólaey and walk on the black sand beach with its towering basalt cliffs before arriving in Vík.
Day 3. Lava Fields - Glacial Lagoon - Vatnajökull Glacier - Höfn.
Today cross the vast Eldhraun lava fields as you journey to Skaftafell National Park and visit the stunning Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon. Overnight in Höfn
Day 4. Eastern Fjords - Steep Mountains - Beautiful Coastline
Admire the spectacular coastline and towering mountains and look out for wild reindeer as you make your way to the Eastern Fjords. Overnight in Egilsstadir.
Day 5. Dettifoss - Námaskard Pass - Lake Mývatn Area
Explore the empty vastness of the highland desert plateau as you head to the Lake Mývatn area. Along the way stop at Dettifoss, Europe's most powerful waterfall and Námaskard Pass with its boiling mud pools and vibrant colours. You may wish to take a horse riding tour or relax in the thermal water at Mývatn Nature Baths.
Day 6. Godafoss - Akureyri - Siglufjordur
Today will take you to the bustling northern port of Akureyri making a stop at the magnificent Godafoss waterfall and Laufás Folk Museum along the way. After spending time in the colourful northern capital, continue along the coastal roads to Eyjafjordur and the Troll Peninsula.
Day 7. Skagafjourdur - Borgarnes
Majestic mountains and narrow passes lead to Skagafjördur where today you will be treated to a unique Icelandic horse show before crossing the Holtavörduheidi plateau through Borgarfjördur and on to the beautiful town of Borgarnes where you spend the evening.
Day 8. Hraunfossar - Thingvellir - Reykjavik
Discover more of Iceland's beautiful natural wonders as you make your way back to Reykjavik today. Witness the powerful hot spring Deildartunguhver, admire the beautiful Hraunfossar waterfall and visit Thingvellir, the ancient site of the world's first parliament. Back in the city, bid farewell to new found friends and dine independently this evening.
Day 9. Depart Iceland
This morning you will have time to explore Reykjavik independently before your transfer to the airport.
