Description

Sitting in the forest just a few metres from a family of mountain gorillas including a 200kg silverback and an inquisitive youngster after having tracked them through the forest is undoubtedly one of the world's outstanding nature experiences and definitely one of Africa's highlights.

Uganda, really is a gem of a place and with Kibale Forest National Park as one of the best places anywhere to track chimpanzees, this primate safari is outstanding. Here in Kibale you are likely to see a number of other primate species including black & white colobus monkeys, red colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, L'Hoest's monkey and grey-cheeked mangabeys as well as olive baboons and potentially pottos at night.

In the Rift Valley further south Queen Elizabeth National Park lies between Lake Edward and Lake George. A morning game drive highlights a typical day on safari in East Africa with lion, elephant, buffalo and many Ugandan kob antelope. In the afternoon you can relax on a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel to enjoy the variety of bird life and numerous hippos.

Passing through the delightful woodlands of Ishasha, where there are tree-climbing lions, you reach Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. This is the best location in Uganda for gorilla trekking and a full day is set aside for this special safari experience. The following day you make your way to pretty Lake Mburo National Park for safari activities. A final morning walking safari with a ranger rounds out this trip before transferring for departure from Entebbe.

Consider combining this itinerary with a week or two in Kenya or Tanzania, on safari or on the beach; or continue south from Bwindi to go gorilla trekking in Rwanda and discover more of Rwanda's other primates.
