Description

Distinct from the rest of Canada, Quebec is a land of contrasts, from its fertile plains to the Appalachian Mountains, forest, taiga and tundra swath the land which is dotted with over a million lakes and thousands of rivers and streams. Unique not only for its history and culture, Quebec is also a gastronomic delight, famous for its French inspired local cuisine and of course a nature lover's paradise, home to over 650 species including bears, beaver, bird of prey and many marine mammals.

Your experience beings in the heart of Quebec at Saint-Alexis-des-Monts, where the first of your comfortable accommodations borders the Mastigouche Wildlife Reserve. From here you can enjoy some of the many outdoor activities available. Explore the forests by quad bike, paddle calm waters and discover hidden coves, hike the forest trails or simply relax in the beautiful surroundings. A highlight of your stay will be a twilight tour to observe the beaver in its natural habitat before venturing a little further afield to Saint Maurice where black bears can be viewed from the safety of a wooden observation cabin.

Continuing on through Trois-Rivieres, your next destination offers an array of both water and land based activities, where lazy days can be spent on the beach or exploring forest trails on foot or by mountain bike. Just 10km away from your resort an evening excursion provides another rare opportunity to view bears in their natural environment.

La Baie is your next stop. With its bounty of intriguing shops, restaurants and attractions this borough of Saguenay is the perfect place from which to explore. Visit the Wild Zoo of Saint-Fleicien, the Historical Village of Val-Jalbert or cruise the calm waters of the Saguenay Fjord before travelling along the northern shores of the St. Lawrence River to Tadoussac, famous for its whale watching opportunities. Take advantage of the knowledge of an experienced naturalist as you venture out on the water in search of fin, minke and beluga whales that all frequent this region during the summer months.

Your journey continues along the north shore of the St. Lawrence River to Forestville where you will take a high speed catamaran to Rimouski before driving to Cap-Chat. Here 60km2 of pure untouched nature is just waiting to be discovered either in the company of experienced guides or independently at Chic-Chocs Mountain Lodge.

Finally, the scenic path of the St. Lawrence River leads you to Riviere-du-Loup on its southern shore for one final night before arriving back into Montreal.
