A husky safari often tops the wish list for most winter holiday goers, and whilst many are happy to just ‘give it a go’, we believe a short safari can often leave you wanting more. From a small village in the north of Sweden, Sanne invites you to experience the thrill of an overnight adventure, allowing you to fully appreciate the company and unique personalities of her friendly Alaskan Huskies and the true beauty of Swedish Lapland.
DAY 1
Your overnight adventure begins with a transfer from your chosen accommodation to the husky farm, where you will be kitted out in warm weather gear before learning how to handle the dogs and drive the sled. Then it’s time to meet the excited huskies! The dogs have one thing in common… they all love to run, so before any safari you can feel, and certainly hear, the excitement build and the frenzy is contagious as you help to harness the dogs and load the sleds. Then, ready on the runners, the brakes are released, and the adventure begins.
Dog sledding is an exhilarating experience and any nervous feelings will soon subside as you settle into the dogs pace and pick up speed along the frozen trails. Each day you will cover distances of 30-50 km and there will be plenty of opportunities for short breaks, photo stops and, of course, tasty campfire lunches.
To add to your adventure, you will spend the night in a wilderness cabin in the very heart of nature. Some cabins are basic, others offer a bit of luxury with electricity or even running water, but they are all warm and cosy and provide a memorable experience. This is a ‘hands on’ adventure and the more you get involved the greater the experience will be. You’ll help to care for and feed the dogs, chop wood, start the fire and assist with dinner preparations before settling back to feed your own appetites, take a warming sauna and maybe catch a glimpse of the northern lights in the dark night skies.
DAY 2
Awake to the silence of the wilderness and after a tasty breakfast it’s back on the trails for another full day out with the huskies, winding your way back to base. You will arrive back at the husky farm during the late afternoon and after looking after the dogs you are invited to warm up with a hot chocolate. Sadly, it’s time to say a fond farewell to your guide and new canine companions, but you are sure to leave with life-long memories and you are always welcome back for more adventures.
This is an excellent choice for couples, families or groups of friends looking for a new and exciting experience. Let us create your perfect Swedish adventure, and if you would like to sled for longer 3 & 4 day safaris are also available.
Why not combine this experience with our selection of amazing and unique Swedish retreats. Begin with a few nights at Sorbyn Lodge or Arctic Retreat where you can acclimatise and settle into Swedish life before embracing nature on the overnight husky safari. Reward yourselves afterwards with a little more luxury at Loggers Lodge, Arctic Bath or maybe stay in a unique tree house at TreeHotel.
