From Vancouver, set sail for Nanaimo on Vancouver Island where your journey to the wild West Coast will continue by car. With a base for the next few nights in the coastal town of Ucluelet, discover the diverse wildlife that is abundant here from black bears to migrating humpback and gray whales. Enjoy marine adventures from Tofino, soak in the hot springs and explore the Pacific Rim National Park.
Make your way back east for an overnight stop in Campbell River, 'Salmon Capital of the World', before continuing your journey north to Telegraph Cove, rumoured to offer the best whale watching in North America. Spend time cruising the protected waters of Johnstone Strait in search of Orca’s, humpbacks and other marine life, you may even spot bears along the shoreline!
Leaving the historical community of Telegraph Cove behind, head to Port Hardy where you will board a seaplane destined for Great Bear Lodge. This remote floating lodge in the heart of the Great Bear Rainforest is owner operated and their passion for the surrounding pristine rainforest and its grizzly bear residents is infectious. Over the next 3 days, observe grizzly bears and other wildlife, including wolves, otters, bald eagles, black bears, pine martens and mink, all in their natural habitat. Go sea-kayaking, take boat trips and venture into the rainforest on interpretive walks with expert wildlife guides.
After epic encounters at Great Bear Lodge return to Vancouver Island for a relaxed evening in Port Hardy before flying back to Vancouver the following day where you can spend a few days exploring this vibrant city before heading home.
This is just an example of possibilities available for wildlife trips in Canada.
