Experience a truly immersive Arctic adventure in the remote wilderness of northern Finland, on the edge of Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park. The adventure begins with a transfer from the airport to the secluded lakeside setting near Rauhala, where a traditional off grid wilderness safari camp becomes your home for the duration of your stay.
Set beside a frozen lake, the camp offers a back-to-basics yet cosy experience in a shared log cabin sleeping just 6 people, warmed by a wood-burning stove and lit by battery-powered electricity. With no running water, daily life follows the rhythms of the wilderness - drawing water from the ice, gathering firewood, and sharing responsibilities with your fellow adventurers. Evenings are spent in the welcoming glow of the kota, enjoying hearty home-cooked meals by the open fire, swapping stories, and unwinding in the lakeside sauna, with the option of an invigorating dip in the icy water.
At the heart of this experience is the unforgettable connection with a team of energetic Alaskan huskies. Under the expert guidance of your hosts and wilderness guides, you’ll learn the art of dog sledding, first meeting the dogs, then harnessing them, and ultimately driving your own team through pristine snow-covered landscapes. As you glide through silent forests and across open terrain, the only sounds are the rhythmic patter of paws and the runners on snow. Along the way, breaks by the campfire offer time to warm up with simple outdoor lunches and take in the untouched beauty of the surroundings.
This hands-on adventure is as much about teamwork as it is exploration. You’ll play an active role in caring for the dogs and contributing to daily camp life, creating a rewarding and authentic connection to both the environment and your fellow travellers. Blending wilderness living with exhilarating husky safaris, this experience offers a rare opportunity to disconnect from the modern world and embrace the simplicity, beauty, and real spirit of Lapland.
