Experience the exhilaration of the Arctic wilderness each day as you embark on new adventures, before returning to delicious food and the welcoming comfort of your chosen accommodation at Harriniva Adventure Resort. The highlight of your stay is sure to be an unforgettable overnight dog sled safari, where you’ll drive your own team of huskies through the snowy landscape and spend the night in a remote wilderness cabin beneath the Arctic sky.
This adult only winter adventure week is the perfect choice whether you are travelling as a couple, with friends, or going solo. With small group activities you are sure to meet many likeminded people and leave not only with lasting memories, but with new found friends.
Day 1 Arrive Kittilä
Depart from either London or Manchester to Lapland. Meeting and transfer by road to your chosen accommodation. There will be an evening get together with the group and information about the programme for the week ahead. Dinner and overnight.
Day 2 Reindeers
Today you’ll meet a herd of majestic reindeer in their natural habitat. The adventure begins with a scenic ride in a sleigh pulled by a snowmobile and after reaching the reindeer you’ll have the unique opportunity to observe these curious creatures up close, learn about their care and discover the traditions and practices of local reindeer herding from your guide, a herder himself. Back at Harriniva, treat yourself to a warming sauna before dinner.
Day 3 Snowmobiles
Take a snowmobile safari through the mountain scenery covering a total distance of 40-60km. Driving a snowmobile is surprisingly easy, even for beginners, and soon you'll be opening the throttle, speeding through the snowy forests and across frozen lakes. Again, as is tradition, enjoy lunch by an open fire in the wilderness before returning to the centre for evening dinner and overnight.
Day 4 Overnight Husky Safari
With your equipment packed, you'll meet your eager team of huskies, each excited to set off into the wilderness. After a full introduction to handling the dogs and sled, you'll begin a two-day safari through the spectacular Arctic landscape, driving your own team of four or five huskies. Along the way, pause to enjoy lunch cooked over an open fire before continuing deeper into the northern wilderness. Covering around 25km, today's journey ends at a remote wilderness cabin, where a hearty evening meal is prepared. Share stories from the day's adventure before unwinding with a traditional sauna.
Day 5 Husky Safari back to base
Wake up in the silence of the north before packing up camp and heading off again with your team of dogs for a further 30km or so, eventually returning to the centre in the afternoon. A warming sauna will be a welcomed treat to ease any aching muscles before heading to the dining room for a well deserved dinner.
Day 6 Snowshoe Day
Slow the pace today and experience a snowshoe hike in the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park. This is the largest fell area in western Lapland and as you hike higher up the fell you are rewarded with the most beautiful views.
Day 7 Relaxation Day and Farewell Dinner
Today it’s time to take it easy before living life like a Finn this evening during a unique guided sauna experience at Arctic Sauna World. Round off your trip with a Signature Dinner Experience at Jierra and dine on a feast of Lapp specialties.
Day 8 Depart Finland
Linger longer over breakfast this morning before preparing for your transfer to Kittilä airport and your return flights to the UK.
