Winter Wolves and Auroras Photography Tour

During this small group photography focused tour, enjoy the company of like-minded travellers whilst staying at a cosy base camp in Eastern Finland. Hone your wilderness and photographic skills with the help of an experienced local guide, as you survey the landscapes, search for wildlife and seek the northern lights, capturing all on camera. 

Your first evening will be spent in Lentiira where you can dive into the fascinating world of astrology and the northern lights during an evening aurora excursion. You may capture some amazing images if conditions are right.   

After a cosy night at Hotel Kalevala you will transfer to Kuikka Base Camp in Kuhmo for the remainder of your stay, where hearty breakfasts, wilderness lunches and delicious evening dinners punctuate each day. During the week you'll venture out in the company of an experienced local photography guide to track and observe the winter wildlife that resides in the Kuhmo region. Traverse the deep powder snow with snowshoes during a visit to a frozen lake, where ice fishing and landscape photography await; explore on back country skis the old growth forests of Elimyssalo Nature Reserve where wolves, wild reindeer, elk and even the elusive lynx reside; and as night falls there is an opportunity to seek and photograph the northern lights against the stunning back drop of the frozen lake.

A highlight for photography enthusiasts is the inclusions of five afternoon/evening visits to dedicated photography hides for unique opportunities to observe wolves, wolverine and possibly eagles, in a beautiful winter setting. As night falls, you may return to your comfortable room at Base Camp or choose to spend the night in the warmth of the cosy hide, maximising your opportunities to observe and photograph wildlife under the cover of darkness. You will wake to the magic of the morning light and more wildlife encounters before returning to Base Camp for breakfast and a morning of relaxation. 

Your final day is dedicated to processing some of your best images before introducing them on the big screen during a final showcase presentation and farewell dinner.
