Luosto Husky Adventure

If you are looking for the ultimate winter adventure then look no further... this is the trip for you!

This action packed short break really does have it all; from wilderness adventures with huskies to luxurious nights under the stars, and it all begins in the authentic Lappish village of Luosto, just 90-minutes from Lapland's Rovaniemi airport.

After a restful nights sleep in a comfortable hotel room, complete with your own private sauna, you will pack your overnight bag and meet your fellow mushers and guides before being transferred to the nearby husky farm.  

Meet the dogs and pack your sled then, after a full briefing on mushing, hold on tight and release the brake. You will set of at an exhilarating speed and can expect to travel between 30-40km each day, driving your own team of dogs through snow laden forests and across the frozen marshes and lakes of the Pyha-Luosto area.  Before long you will settle into the dogs pace, enjoying the journey and breaking along the way for a tasty campfire lunch. After a full day out with the dogs you will arrive at your simple, yet cosy wilderness cabin where you and your fellow mushers will help to look after and feed the dogs, collect water for cooking, fire up the sauna and prepare your evening meal together. In this wilderness setting, far from any light pollution, you may be privileged enough to witness the magical beauty of the aurora borealis.

Awake to the silence of nature and with a hearty breakfast to set you on your way enjoy another exhilarating morning on the trails, this time heading back to the husky farm. Bid farewell to the dogs and return to Hotel Aurora where a little luxury, a hot shower and a delicious 3-course dinner await. Your accommodation for the next 2 nights will be a luxurious Glass Igloo with views to the Arctic night sky.  

You could end your holiday here, but we know all too well that most guests wish they’d stayed for longer so, we have included an extra day along with two more ‘must do’ winter pursuits.  

The first allows further exploration of Lapland’s beautiful backcountry on a 3-hour electric snowmobile safari.  Staying with the eco theme, your evening excursion captures the essence of a winter night in the northern woods as you traverse the moonlit trails by snowshoe.

Departure Dates

The overnight husky adventure departs Luosto on a Monday however, we can build your itinerary around this departure allowing some flexibly with a length of stay to suit your schedule 

Difficulty

You should be mobile and with a reasonable degree of fitness for mushing your own dog team including helping them push the sled up hills.

Flights

Flights on Finnair from London Heathrow via Helsinki are included. Regional departures are possible, please enquire. Some low cost carriers sometimes fly into Rovaniemi direct from the UK.
